Christi and Angela speak with Kimberly Morgan and Jessica McCoy from GirlUP GVL, a free life enrichment program, helping young girls in the Greenville, SC area rise up to their full potential and know their true worth and value. GirlUp GVL was founded in 2019 but these ladies have been mentoring teens and young adults for many years now.  We hear why the much-needed program was started as well as some of the processes that were implemented to not only reach some of these young adults but to continue to support them through their journey to find their path in life. We are really excited to hear the success stories and how we all can get involved whether it be financially, our time, and/or our resources. It is extremely important that we support our future generations all around us especially those that are from under-resourced areas. Thank you for listening!

About Kimberly:

Kim Mogan, a native of Greenville, SC, has worked in the nonprofit sector for over a decade with years of extensive experience mentoring middle, high school, and college students prior to founding GirlUp GVL. Kim holds a bachelor's in Human Services from Anderson University which has equipped her in her leadership capacity as Executive Director of GirlUp GVL. She has a heart for service and a passion for helping girls be better today than they were yesterday. Furthermore, Kim draws on her own enriching and empowering experiences to lead GirlUp GVL.

In 2019 Kim founded GirlUp GVL, a free life enrichment program, helping young girls in the Greenville area rise up to their full potential and to know their true worth and value. Kim leans on the partnerships she’s developed over the years with key organizations, businesses, and other non-profits to help bridge the resource and network gaps that often exist in our communities. She knows first-hand the power and impact of positive role models and wants to provide girls with experiences and opportunities they otherwise may not have. Kim has served on multiple Student Improvement Councils (SICs), and School Council Advisory Councils (SCACs), and she continues to serve through various school advocacy committees and teacher partnerships. She currently serves on the Greater Good Greenville Nonprofit Steering Committee. Kim is a 2022 graduate of South Carolina Afterschool Leaders Empowered (SCALE), a year-long fellowship developing highly effective leaders in the field of afterschool and summer learning. This program is hosted by the Riley Institute at Furman University with support from the South Carolina Department of Education. In 2022, Kim was named Talk Greenville’s 25 Most Beautiful Women in the Upstate Honoree.

Kim lives in the downtown Greenville area with her husband of eight years. In her free time, she enjoys working out, spending time with her husband, cooking, dining out in downtown Greenville, and watching good true crime docuseries.

About Jessica:

Born and raised in the Upstate, I moved back to my hometown after graduating from Clemson University. Go Tigers!

As a founding member of our Greenville office, I use my local knowledge to grow our local reputation as a top-tier general contractor in the state. As the Client Experience Manager, I work closely with company leadership to evaluate the complete Brasfield & Gorrie client experience and help drive continuous process improvement. I am passionate about emphasizing the importance of the skilled labor workforce and destigmatizing the construction industry to promote inclusivity.

Community involvement is a huge part of my life. I am particularly devoted to the needs of at-risk women in the state. I serve as Board Chair for GirlUp GVL, a local nonprofit serving under-resourced middle and high school girls through experience, enrichment, and empowerment, and on the Board of Trustees for The Blood Connection, a community blood center for SC, NC, and GA.
