Fostering Networking Relationships
Sometimes it's not about what you know, it's about who you know.
My story can sometimes seem unconventional, unachievable, or even rare, being from Brooklyn, New York. I am here to tell you that it is far from the truth, due to the importance of fostering networking relationships.
When I was 14 years old, I took a chance in HS by participating in an internship program. I didn’t know where this program would take me, but through this experience I earned a scholarship to Temple University. I had mentors that would be there to help me shape my vision for my future career in Landscape Architecture. I still maintain these relationships to this day. The moral of the story is life is about taking risks, meeting new people, going out and trying new places and things, because you never know where you may end up.
How do you foster networking relationships, you may ask?
We explored the critical role of media training in preparing for unexpected interviews or during crisis moments, where the choice of words is paramount. Deb shared insights on the importance of preparation, practicing "impromptu" speeches, and understanding media dynamics to safeguard one's reputation or that of their organization.
One of the most enlightening segments of our discussion revolved around the psychological barriers to effective communication. Deb spoke about overcoming humiliation and shame from past experiences, which can inhibit one's ability to speak publicly. Her coaching includes addressing these issues to unlock a speaker's true potential.
Deb also introduced her literary contributions, including "Encouragement for Your Life" and "Speak Without Fear," which distill her expertise into practical advice for aspiring communicators. These books are available on Amazon and through Audible, perfect for those who prefer to learn on the move.
The takeaway from Deb's visit is clear: with the right guidance and diligent practice, anyone can master the art of communication. Her no-nonsense, yet supportive style, coupled with her extensive experience across various sectors, makes her an invaluable mentor for anyone in the construction field aiming to enhance their speaking prowess.
